My Musings – Leap
Welcome to Muse Magazine.
It is a very fine, often blurry line between excitement and fear. Both make my heart beat a little faster in anticipation. Both make me feel as though I am standing on the edge ready to spread wings and fly, or crash and burn. For many years, I kept a saying taped to my computer: “sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.” So true.
I’ve bought my ticket and I’m waiting to leap. I am standing on the edge not knowing whether I will taste clouds or choke on dirt. I have dreamed of launching Muse Magazine for longer than I can even remember. Does any one of us really know when a dream begins? Has my whole life been leading to this? Who knows. I intentionally didn’t put a question mark at the end of that sentence because, for me, Who is whoever you believe to be in charge of this universe – God, Shiva, Buddha, the dog next door. Instead of “who knows” being a question, I like to think of “Who knows” as a statement. It makes taking that next step a little easier. I may not know who Who is, but I have faith that Who knows why I am doing this and Who knows what will happen when I do this. Who knows.
I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to launch Muse Magazine. This past weekend was a Blue Moon. Something about that seems symbolic for me. Once in a Blue Moon and all that. So is this the perfect moment? Who knows. Last month, I traveled to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak at a celebration for his 80th birthday.
“There are only two days of the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do, and mostly live.” ~ HH Dalai Lama
Who can argue with His Holiness? So here I go…I am taking this leap and launching Muse Magazine today. I am leaping, launching, loving, believing, doing, and mostly living. My dream is that it will become a venue for women to share their truest stories, secret recipes, deepest fears, and most fabulous adventures. My dream is that we will go beyond liking each other’s Facebook posts and start creating a community that celebrates and “likes” us for who we are right now while supporting us in who we want to become. My dream is that we can inspire each other to do more, be more, see more, express more – while knowing that we are absolutely enough just as we are. Today, I am living my dream. I am so very grateful for my amazing Muse Sisters who are sharing this dream with me – Cynthia and Tracy. There’s a quote that I love:
“When we dream alone it is only a dream, but when many dream together it is the beginning of a new reality.”
We invite you to dream with us. Each month, we will feature interviews with some of our favorite muses. We’ll also ask a few of them to guest edit with us. We will share recipes to nourish our bodies, creativity exercises to ignite our souls, mindfulness practices to calm our minds, adventure tales to feed our sense of wonder, and stories of everyday activism to spark our own inner passions. Here’s the secret – you, yes you, are the most important muses. We want to hear from you. We believe that each and every one of us has something to share. Our dream is that each and every one of us will be heard.
This month, we’ll introduce you to an activist whom the Dalai Lama has called an “unsung hero,” a creative who helps youth find their own poem, a travel writer who circles the globe in search of stories to share with us, a financier turned mountain chica, a raw food artist, a UN Peacekeeper, a few Nobel Laureates, and many more. You’ll notice we still have a few “Coming Soon” areas. This dream is a work in progress, and we want you to be a part of that process. In the future, we hope to share your personal stories and feature the wisdom of some of our teen muses. We’ll be calling for submissions and look forward to hearing from you.
Our dream is that Muse will become a source of inspiration, a heartbeat, a movement, a call to action, a question, an answer, support, celebration, nourishment, a standing ovation, a sense of wonder, a platform, an invitation, a conversation, a voice…your voice, our collective voice.
That’s the dream, but Who knows. All I know for sure is that I’ve been standing on the edge for far too long.
Once in a blue moon, we have to take a leap of faith.
One, two, three…wahooooo!
